London is nothing without its club nights. The after hours sanctuaries where music and community merge. One such space is Deviation, the long-running night from DJ Benji B and host Judah Afriyie. A true meeting point for music lovers and talent, it has played host to sets from everyone from Arca to James Blake.

At a time when the lifespan of club nights keeps shrinking under the pressure of rising rents and disappearing venues, Deviation is doing the impossible: celebrating its 18th birthday. To mark the milestone, the duo has released a limited-edition photo book titled These Are The Levels.

Published by Zak Group, the book captures the nights history with over 300 images. Spanning nights in London, Paris and New York, it highlights the cultural diversity of night life. Exclusive photographs of the artists who’ve performed (and partied) at Deviation are a veritable who’s who of music. Think, A$AP Rocky, Skepta, Travis Scott, and more.

“Deviation turning 18 felt like the right moment to reflect,’ says Benji B. “The book and exhibition are a celebration of everything we built: the sound, the people, the energy, and the evolution of a movement born in London”.

Accompanying the phonebook is an exhibition curated by Afriyie. Promising to intersect music, design and fashion, the exhibit will immerse audiences in the world of deviation.

“To quote the late, great Glenn O’Brien: ‘Patries are hard work”, says Afriyie. “As deviation turns 18, the book and exhibition are a moment to reflect and celebrate and hopefully serve as a guide for future generations ahead”.

These Are The Levels London exhibition is open now till 16 November at 9 Caledonian Road, N1 9DX.
