Maria Milis didn’t wait for approval. She just moved forward. Quietly. Strategically. With intent.
“Sleeping With The Enemy” marks the arrival of an artist who isn’t here to fit into pop’s pre-existing moulds. She’s here to rebuild them. The song blends raw emotion with high-level execution, pairing vulnerable lyrics with a polished sound that amplifies its impact.. Within weeks of its release, it began gaining traction, but for Maria, that was never the point.
Owning the Process

Born and raised in North London to Greek and Brazilian parents, Maria grew up between cultures, expectations, and realities. She spent her teens modelling, got a law degree, and worked as a trainee solicitor before fully committing to music. She learned the mechanics of the industry on her own. No label, no team behind the curtain, just late nights, notebooks full of plans, and a commitment to doing things differently.
“To me, being self-made means not waiting for someone else to validate you. It’s about staying in control and defining your own success,” she says.
The Story Behind the Songs
Sleeping With The Enemy is just the first chapter. Her debut EP, set for release in the coming months, unpacks the emotional complexity of toxic relationships. But she’s not interested in playing the victim. These songs don’t plead for sympathy. They hold up a mirror. They dissect the patterns, the silences, the illusions people learn to call love.
Most of the tracks were written when Maria was just 18, a time when many women are experiencing their first taste of emotional chaos without the language to describe it. Her writing bridges that gap. “I didn’t want the EP to sound perfect. I wanted it to feel like something you’ve been through,” she explains.
The songs explore stages of pain, confusion, numbness, and eventual release. There’s no filter, no glossed-over heartbreak. Just emotional clarity, backed by layered production that doesn’t overpower the message.
Guided by Greatness

Her artistic influences speak volumes. “I’ve been a huge Rihanna fan for as long as I can remember,” she says. “She’s bold, confident, and never compromises who she is. She built an empire by staying true to her voice, and that showed me I don’t have to choose between art and ambition. I can have both.”
That mindset is already visible in the way Maria approaches her craft. There’s a music video on the way for Sleeping With The Enemy, and every frame, every lyric, every strategic step is hers.
“I’m not here to choose between brains and beauty, art and business. I want it all. And I work for it all.”
In a music landscape often saturated with shortcuts, Maria Milis stands as a reminder that patience, vision and clarity still matter. And when the right voice finally decides to speak, people listen.
