Discover what celebrities do to help them get a good night’s sleep and prepare for another busy day in the entertainment industry.
Sleep seems to be getting harder these days, if the data from the 2024 Sleep Manifesto is any indication. This annual report by The Sleep Charity states that nearly every individual in the U.K. is experiencing sleep issues. Of them, two out of three are suffering from insomnia symptoms that a general practitioner (GP) hasn’t diagnosed. (1)
At this point, Brits may as well try anything to help them catch enough zeds. This includes engaging in bedtime routines, no matter how strange (yet effective), to improve their quality of sleep. Some take a page from well-known personalities because why not? Showbiz can be just as physically and mentally exhausting.
Sydney Sweeney Doesn’t Drink Coffee
Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney says she makes the most out of every chance at sleep she gets. However, she also said she can function with as little as two hours of rest, not to mention starting her day around 7:30 a.m. (2)
How she’s able to work with “very, very little” sleep, as she stated, is still a mystery. That said, a more baffling detail is that she says she has never tried coffee, instead just drinking water and eating a bowl of berries for breakfast. Neither is as rich in caffeine, if any, as, say, a cup of coffee.
You might think that some of her USD$40 million net worth may go to getting the best in sleep furniture. However, she’s proud of being a penny pincher in everything but parties. If that’s the case, her choice of mattress and pillows might not be different from that of fans.
Who even needs a pricey place to sleep when affordable mattresses for better sleep work just as well? Spring ones are undoubtedly the cheapest, but other options like hybrid and memory foam won’t break the bank. If your present mattress is causing a decline in your sleep hygiene, it may be time to consider replacing it.
Mariah Carey Sleeps With 20 Humidifiers Running

‘Tis the season to be jolly – and take Mariah Carey out of the freezer. With Christmas over a month away (as of this writing), expect the airwaves to be filled with her iconic calls of you being all she wants for the holidays. In some countries, her songs become a staple of malls as they prepare for the holiday rush.
Artists cherish their voices, let alone one belonging to a best-selling artist. Fortunately, her secret to preserving her voice is no secret at all: just adequate sleep… in a bedroom with 20 humidifiers running all night long.
For the record, this isn’t totally weird. According to the U.S. National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, maintaining 30% humidity can help take care of your vocal cords, especially during winter or dry months. (3)
But 20 humidifiers in a room likely means the Songbird Supreme isn’t taking any chances when it comes to preserving her vocals. All that steam is more than enough to form water droplets in the ceiling, but she said that her room’s ceiling is pitched to let them fall to the side instead of her head. She’s also known to have a 15-hour sleep schedule. (4)
Eminem Covers the Windows With Aluminium Foil
When not busy covering food like mom’s spaghetti, aluminium foil can be a cost-effective way to keep out anything that interrupts a good night’s sleep. At least, if you’re Eminem.
Despite his personal struggles being long behind him, it has left a deep impact on his sleeping routine. Eminem has described that the way he was using certain medications put him in a “weird comatose state,” which became worse in 2006 after the loss of a beloved friend, Proof.
Now, when he’s away from his Detroit home, he ensures his hotel room blocks everything out. Apart from blackout curtains, he reportedly puts aluminium foil in the windows to keep the lights out. Such a habit was peculiar enough to inspire rumours, for a time, that he used the foil to prevent spies from eavesdropping.
Between the aluminum foil and blackout curtains, Eminem is said to prefer sleeping in complete darkness. Additionally, he is also said to request that his room be filled with white noise to block out external disturbances. While many swear by this, the scientific consensus remains unclear.
Tom Cruise Sleeps in a ‘Snoratorium’
Studies have shown that snoring can strain relationships, and celebrity couples are no exception. While still wedded to Katie Holmes, Top Gun’s Maverick had to deal with his loud snoring. There was no way they were sleeping in one room.
To that end, he reportedly had a so-called‘snoratorium’ built in all his homes, including his mansion in Los Angeles. It is essentially a small bedroom built to spare others the trouble of having to struggle with his snoring. Since then, more famous personalities have had similar rooms built for their homes.
Although snoring is a symptom of obstructive sleep apnoea, there’s been no public record of Mr. Cruise being diagnosed with the disorder. That said, medical experts agree that aging increases the frequency of snoring due to a decline in muscle tone.
He’s 63 as of this writing.
Would Any of These Work for You?
Just because these bedtime rituals work for celebrities doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll work for you. It also doesn’t help that humidifiers start around GBP£30, and a bedroom transformation can cost thousands. If you insist on trying these out yourself, the least you can do is to have a comfy and cost-friendly mattress to sleep in.
