Pop star horror is on trend in Hollywood this year. Paramount Pictures has dropped a trailer for Smile 2, which centers on a “global pop sensation” played by Naomi Scott who begins to experience terrifying events while on tour.
In the clip, Scott embodies singer Skye Riley, a Lady Gaga-like star whose life behind the scenes takes a horrifying turn when someone from her past (Lukas Gage) appears and, well, smiles. The trailer includes Skye Riley’s fictional single, “Blood on White Satin,” which Scott performed for the film.
A synopsis for the movie notes, “About to embark on a new world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) begins experiencing increasingly terrifying and inexplicable events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horrors and the pressures of fame, Skye is forced to face her dark past to regain control of her life before it spirals out of control.”
Smile 2 stars Scott, Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Kyle Gallner, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Peter Jacobson, Raúl Castillo, Dylan Gelula, and Ray Nicholson. It was written and directed by Parker Finn, who also helmed 2022’s Smile. It will arrive in theaters Oct. 18, just in time for Halloween.
Fans can follow Skye Riley on Instagram leading up to the release. The social media account includes an interview with producer Ryan Tedder, who talks about the singer like she’s a real person. “There was music before Skye Riley,” he says, “And then there was music after Skye Riley.”
Several TikTok accounts have also released clips using the single, which is out now via Interscope Records.
