Arctic Monkeys will “always” make music as a band, according to drummer Matt Helders.

Last week, the Sheffield band shared their new single ‘Opening Night’, one of the leading tracks from HELP(2), the new album from War Child Records. It is their first new material since 2022.

The release came amid rumours that the band were set to split up, with Helders telling Jack Saunders on BBC Radio 1: “I think we went into this knowing it was a one-off. But then, having done it, we probably went away feeling like we just had a lot of fun making this record.

“There’s no conversations about it, but it’s definitely something we love to do and we’ll always do,” he added.

‘Opening Night’ is the band’s first new music since the release of their 2022 album, The Car. Reviewing The Car upon its release, Rolling Stone UK wrote: “It’s a record that builds on the sonic palette of their last album, while making things more grander, colourful and cinematic. The result is some of the greatest songs of their career.”

Also featuring on Help (2), produced by James Ford, are PulpBlur’s Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon and Depeche Mode, alongside modern stars such as The Last Dinner PartyFontaines D.C.Cameron Winter, Arlo ParksFoals and many more.
