Gloria Gaynor has responded to Madonna covering her iconic track ‘I Will Survive’ on her new Celebration tour.

Madonna began her tour at London’s The O2 on Saturday night (October 14), featuring a 28-song setlist traversing her entire career.

Also on the setlist were a handful of covers including ‘I Will Survive’, which Gaynor has shared her delight at.

Taking to X/Twitter, she said to Madonna: “Congratulations on the launch of #TheCelebrationTour at the @TheO2. So happy that you are in good health and ready to have a holiday with fans around the world! By the way, you have excellent taste in music!”

Reviewing the opening night of Madonna’s Celebration tour, Rolling Stone UK wrote: “Much like the singer herself, tonight’s opening show is two hours of overblown, indulgent fun that refuses to dance to the beat of anyone else’s drum. She owns this mantra herself late on, with a montage that looks back at all the detractors – Cher to name but one – who have slung insults at the Madonna throughout her career.

“After all, she’s the one still standing after 40 years. In a year when Taylor Swift’s own look back at her career is proving the biggest tour in a generation, here’s a true icon, who for the most part at least, is determined to show that her throne as the Queen of Pop remains roundly intact. A celebration, well and truly delivered.”
