Madonna confirms ‘Confessions on a Dance Floor’ sequel
Madonna's latest arrives in July.
Time has gone by so slowly since Madonna released her 10th studio album, Confessions on a Dance Floor in 2005. But the reigning queen of pop music has confirmed that a sequel is on the way.
Confessions II arrives on July 3 via Warner Records and is the continuation of the iconic counterpart Confessions on a Dance Floor.
Madonna said: “When Stuart Price and I first started working on this record, this was our manifesto. We must dance, celebrate, and pray with our bodies. These are things that we’ve been doing for thousands of years — they really are spiritual practices. After all, the dance floor is a ritualistic space. It’s a place where you connect —with your wounds, with your fragility. To rave is an art. It’s about pushing your limits and connecting to a community of like-minded people.
“Sound, light, and vibration. Reshape our perceptions Pulling us into a trance-like state,” she added. “The repetition of the bass, we don’t just hear it but we feel it. Altering our consciousness and dissolving ego and time.”
On Tuesday, Madonna wiped her Instagram account, teased lyrics from the original album’s lead single ‘Hung Up’ and updated her website to have the phrase “Confessions II” flash across the screen.
Though no release date or further information was given, Madonna has been teasing the project since December 2024. (Rolling Stone previously reported that a dance album was expected some time this year.)
Over the past year, Madonna has confirmed that she’s been back in the studio with Stuart Price, the producer behind the original Grammy-winning album. And in September, Madonna re-signed with Warner Records, where she got her start in 1982, under the label Sire Records.
“I’m putting my heart and soul into my new music and I can’t wait to share it with you,” she shared with fans last February.
The Confessions follow-up will be Madonna’s first album since 2019’s Madame X.
