Boygenius debut Lucy Dacus-led new Song ‘Afraid of Heights’ at Boston gig
The trio will release a four-song EP called 'the rest' next month
Boygenius announced their four-song EP, the rest, earlier this week, a short and sweet follow-up to their album, the record. To further preview the fall treat, the band debuted another new song live in concert.
During the trio’s stop in Boston, the band played ‘Afraid of Heights’ for the first time. The song is led by Lucy Dacus, who sings of danger and anxiety on the track. Her own fears of heights and pain, among other things, are a sharp contrast to that of the person she is singing to in the song, who attempts to test her limits and live a life on the edge.
As Dacus sings in the third verse over a solemn guitar strum: “I never rode a motorcycle/I’ve never smoked a cigarette/I wanna live a vibrant life/But I wanna die a boring death/I know I was a disappointment/Know you wanted me to take a risk/Not everybody gets the chance to live/A life that isn’t dangerous.”
Boygenius could likely debut all four new songs while on the road these coming weeks. The group sang ‘Black Hole’ on Sunday after announcing the EP. The Rest will officially be released on October 13th.
