Chappell Roan has responded to people who criticised the risqué red carpet outfit she wore to the Grammys last weekend.

The singer was in attendance for the 68th edition of the annual awards ceremony at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday (February 1), with Roan nominated for Record of the Year and Best Solo Performance for her single ‘The Subway’.

Arriving at the event, Roan sparked a mix of opinions for her unusual outfit – which consisted of a maroon gown with a hood. When fully unfurled, it revealed a dress of the same colour, held up by two nipple rings.

The look drew a mixture of opinions, with some expressing bafflement and others praising the originality of her outfit.

“Chappell Roan looks completely stunning,” wrote one user. Another, conversely, asked: “She looks so uncomfortable, who thinks this stuff up?”

Responding on social media, she wrote: “Giggling because I don’t even think this is THAT outrageous of an outfit,” she wrote in a caption, sharing a series of photos from the night “The look’s actually so awesome and weird. I recommend just exercising your free will; it’s really fun and silly.”

Roan was also seen on stage at the ceremony when she presented the Best New Artist  Grammy to Olivia Dean, having won the same accolade herself a year previously.

Last year saw Chappell headline Reading & Leeds Festival, with our review hailing it as “a reflection of the dizzying ascent of the star and self-proclaimed Midwest Princess born Kayleigh Rose Amsturz”.
