The Spice Girls recently staged a mini reunion at Victoria Beckham‘s 50th birthday party, which was captured on film by her husband David Beckham. The global football star appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to discuss his career and Netflix documentary Beckham, but took the opportunity to explain how the iconic British girl group came back together.

“How long had it been since they sang together?” Kimmel asked Beckham after showing his video from inside the party.

“It’s actually been like 12 years since they did the Olympics in the U.K., but over 15 years since they were actually on the stage together,” Beckham replied. “So obviously having them all that night — and I didn’t expect them to all get up on stage — but I had a whole video planned where me and my kids recreated the ‘Mama’ video. So my son, who plays the guitar and sings, had a song and he sang ‘Mama’ and then all of a sudden all the girls got up. And I’m their biggest fan.”

He added, “I tend to not tell my wife that because I tend to tell her that I fancied her, but she was a Spice Girl! I love that about her. So I was a fan.”

Beckham also discussed making his documentary, owning the Miami Football Club, and how he felt about Tom Brady’s recent roast.

Last month, the Posh birthday celebration, held at private members club Oswald’s in London, was a celebrity-filled affair attended by Tom Cruise, Salma Hayek, and Eva Longoria. During the birthday bash, all five of the Spice Girls members got together to sing “Stop,” which was captured by Beckham as he filmed his wife and her fellow Spice Girls Geri Halliwell, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm, and Emma Bunton dancing and singing along to the single from their 1997 sophomore album, Spiceworld.

Beckham captioned the clip he shared on Instagram with “I mean come on x” and tagged each of the group members. The birthday Spice Girl also shared the video on her Instagram account, writing, “Best night ever! Happy Birthday to me! I love you all so much! #SpiceUpYourLife.”

The surprise performance comes as the quintet mark their 30th anniversary. Earlier this year, they celebrated 30 years by sharing footage from their first Spice Girls auditions back in 1994, soundtracked to their 1996 debut single “Wannabe.” The group had a reunion tour in 2019, but Beckham did not join the outing. The last time they all performed together publicly was at the London Olympics closing ceremony in 2012. Britain’s Royal Mail also issued commemorative postage stamps in tribute to Spice Girls’ 30th anniversary.
