Elton John has shared a new health update following a hip injury which forced him to postpone the rest of his 2021 tour.

In September the British singer-songwriter announced that he would be moving the rest of the UK and European Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour to 2023 due to an injury caused by a fall.

Speaking on Monday (November 1) on ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, he shared that he is “in pain most of the time”.

“I can’t move sideways. I can’t get in and out of a car,” he said. “And the decision had to be made, because I wouldn’t want to go on stage and give less than 100 per cent. And I don’t know – with a year and a half of touring to go – how long my hip would last. It probably wouldn’t. So better to get it [the operation] done now.”

He also promised fans that he will return in better health ready to perform again. “I’ll make it up to them and I’ll be in much better form,” he said.

On Friday (October 29) John reached number one on the UK Official Albums Chart with his record ‘The Lockdown Sessions’.

The album was released on October 22 this year, and features collaborations with Rina Sawayama, Years & Years, Nicki Minaj, Dua Lipa, Lil Nas X and Stevie Wonder.

It marked John’s second number one in less than a month, two weeks after his single, ‘Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)’ with Dua Lipa reached number one.

It was also recently announced that Elton John and Ed Sheeran would be releasing a Christmas track.

Sharing the news of the collaboration with Dutch radio station NPO Radio 2, Sheeran said: “Elton rang me on Christmas Day to say Merry Christmas. Elton rings me almost every single day.

He said that John was excited that his 1973 single, ‘Step Into Christmas’, had finally reached the UK top 10 last year. “[Elton] said, ‘Step Into Christmas is Number 6 in the charts! I want to do another Christmas song – will you do it with me?’”

Sheeran shared a brief snippet of the song on BBC Radio 2.

“So kiss me under the mistletoe / Pour out the wine / Let’s toast and pray for December snow,” he sang. “I know there’s been pain this year but it’s time to let it go / Next year you’ll never know / But for now Merry Christmas.”

He told Zoe Ball: “There’s loads of sleigh bells on it and it sounds a lot more Christmassy than that.”

The pair are yet to share the name and release date of the track.
