Kelly Lee Owens has released new song ‘Unity’ as the official theme for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.

The track by the electronic musician will be used as the theme for the tournament hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

“Our values were completely aligned,” she said of the opportunity to make the track. “They kept using the word epic and I just took that and ran with it and made it as epic and bold as I could. I put everything I had into it – rising arpeggios, rising basslines. It’s led with my voice, but I wanted the sense of community brought in with choirs.”

In July the techno artist collaborated with Sigrid to reimagine her peppy single ‘Mirror’ which came with its own video where Sigrid danced in the woods in a sparkly, tassel-lined jumpsuit.

Speaking about the collaboration, Lee Owens said: It was such a joy to work on this remix! The song itself is incredible and I wanted to take it to clubbier heights with my reimagining of it. I feel it’s more important than ever that we keep dancing”.

In August last year, the producer released her second album ‘Inner Song’, but in June this year cancelled her Europe tour due to Brexit and the Covid-19 pandemic.

Posting a statement on Twitter, she wrote:  “Let me be candid as to why. The main reason is of course the ongoing pandemic. That plus the anxiety of dealing with individual countries in a post-Brexit touring world and the extra fees etc that come with that.

“Both of these things combined have thrown up a huge amount of anxiety for me. I don’t cancel things lightly, but I have to look after myself.”
