The Oscars 2022 were held in Los Angeles, California last night (March 27). See the full list of winners below.

This year’s ceremony took place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, having been postponed from its original date in February due to COVID-related issues. Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes served as co-hosts; it marked the first time the Oscars had a host since 2017.

The Denis Villeneuve-directed sci-fi epic Dune picked up the most trophies, including Best Editing and Best Original Score. CODA was named Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay, with Troy Kotsur taking home the Best Actor in a Supporting Role award for his performance as Frank Rossi in the film.

Elsewhere, Billie Eilish and Finneas bagged the Original Song statue for their 2020 James Bond Theme, ‘No Time To Die’. The duo also delivered a live performance of the track, while Beyoncé sang her nominated song from the same category, ‘Be Alive’, which appears on the King Richard Soundtrack.

Megan Thee Stallion, meanwhile, made a surprise live appearance to perform ‘We Don’t Talk About Bruno’.

Will Smith made headlines after he jumped onstage to slap Chris Rock while the comedian was presenting the Best Documentary award. Rock had made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair loss, a symptom of alopecia.

One attendee said that “the whole place was stunned” by the incident, with Rock telling the audience immediately afterwards: “Will Smith just smacked the shit out of me.”

Later, Smith won Best Actor for his role as Richard Williams in King Richard, (the film received six nominations total). He approached the stage with a smile, appearing to reference the run-in.

“Richard Williams was a fierce defender of his family. In this time in my life, in this moment, I am overwhelmed by what God is calling on me to do and be in this world,” Smith said. “I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people. And to be a river to my people. I know to do what we do you gotta be able to take abuse, have people talk crazy about you. In this business, you gotta be able to have people disrespecting you and you gotta smile and pretend like that’s OK.

“I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to all my fellow nominees,” he added. “Art imitates life; I look like the crazy father just like they said about Richard Williams. Love will make you do crazy things …I hope the Academy invites me back.”

Other winners included Belfast (Best Original Screenplay), Drive My Car (Best International Feature Film), Encanto (Best Animated Feature Film) and Jane Campion, who was crowned Best Director for The Power of the Dog.
