Spellbinding Scottish singer Jacob Alon is the winner of The Play Next Award at the Rolling Stone UK Awards 2025.

Picking up their award, after a stunning performance earlier in the evening at the Roundhouse ceremony, Alon said: “Thank you so much Rolling Stone UK, you absolute beautiful bastards!”

“This means the absolute world, and it’s such an honour to stand before so many people that have shaped my heart and the things that guide me towards creating. They are the people that I stand on the shoulders of.”

Alon also marked Trans Day of Remembrance, saying: “Those are the beautiful, beautiful shoulders that I stand on the most. Thank you so much for reminding me why love is the only thing that is ever worth it.

“I would love if everyone could message one of their friends who is trans, non-binary, queer, and give them a virtual hug. Give them a real hug. Maybe give them £20! And if you don’t have any queer friends, go and make some. They’re the most beautiful people in the world, and today is important to remember those we’ve lost along the way.”

Every Monday, Rolling Stone UK’s Play Next series spotlights an exciting new act or group that we believe are on the way towards big things. This award recognises some of 2025’s rising stars that have put their marker down this year and enter 2026 as firm ones to watch. Others to be nominated for the award included Cliffords, Getdown Services, Westside Cowboy, Skye Newman and Rianne Downey.

The Rolling Stone UK Awards 2025 kicked off earlier tonight with a performance from Myles Smith, who also won The Breakthrough Award. Other award winners so far include Biffy Clyro, Bob Geldof, Wunderhorse and Riot Women.
