Wet Leg, Ezra Collective, Maisie Peters and others are set to star in new educational music show Yukee, launching on CBeebies next week.

The show will run on weekdays from Monday, February 5, with episodes also available to watch on the BBC iPlayer.

A press release said of Yukee: “The show is a series about the sheer joy of making a noise with friends and reminds us that ‘music is for everyone’.

“As well as having themes of community, friendship, and cooperation at its heart, Yukee offers young audiences a gentle, child-centred introduction to music education and exposes them to simple, yet fundamental musical concepts that will form a strong foundation for lifelong learning and enjoyment of music – beat, rhythm, pitch, tempo, timbre, form, dynamics, expression and style.”

In the show, Wet Leg will star as a group of snails called The Slime Sisters, while Maisie Peters will play a lost mouse looking to music to guide her home. Ezra Collective are a pair of travelling musicians, while Lauren Laverne hosts her own radio show, Sticks Music, as the character Roxie Rabbit.

Other musical stars to appear in the show include Weezer’s Rivers Cuomo (as a musician pigeon called Feathers), Jurassic 5’s Chali 2na (a rapping fox called Bushy T), and Architects vocalist Sam Carter (a rocker called Hoops Van Badger).

Yukee herself is a young girl of Northern Irish and Chinese descent who plays the ukelele and meets all her musical friends in a magical garden.
