Liberty celebrates 150 years by crafting the ultimate rockstar wardrobe
Designed by Gucci’s former creative director Frida Giannini, the Hypernova 150 collection embraces Soho eccentricity.

If Frida Giannini’s name sounds familiar, it’s likely thanks to her iconic tenure as creative director at Gucci. Now, she’s taking the creative helm of Liberty’s anniversary collection, Hypernova 150.
“A hypernova is one of the most energetic reactions in the universe. Ten times more powerful than a supernova,” says Giannini. “That immense burst of energy became my metaphor for rebirth. Hypernova is about new stars being born. It’s not nostalgia – it’s transformative.”

The collection celebrates Liberty’s British roots while embracing a spirit of reinvention. Think of it as a love letter to London’s Carnaby Street, where countercultural style and music once converged.
References to rock’n’roll, naval tailoring and archival Liberty prints create a vivid dialogue between past and future. Standout pieces include a velvet Nelson coat inspired by naval uniforms, echoing the military jackets of the early 2000s – à la Kate Moss’s Libertines-era.
“Liberty is more than a store – it’s a cultural landmark and artistic movement,’ says Giannini. “Its founder, Arthur Lasenby Liberty, created a vision that fused art, nature and craft. Designing Hypernova 150 was about capturing that spirit – reborn through modern eyes.”

Liberty CEO Adil Khan describes the partnership as a defining moment for the brand’s future: “Frida has reimagined Liberty through a lens of unapologetic glamour and integrity. Hypernova 150 is a declaration of where we’re headed: bold, visionary and creatively fearless.”
