Red Wing Heritage’s signature boots get a Human Made remix
“I’ve been wearing Red Wing boots for years, long before this collaboration”, says designer Nigo
The appropriation of Americana in Japanese fashion is so prolific that it has its own name: ametora. Rooted in a deep reverence for heritage, this movement elevates classic American workwear from top to toe through meticulous craftsmanship and an almost scholarly attention to detail.
It should come as no surprise, then, that a designer like Nigo would find inspiration in a brand such as Red Wing Heritage. With its legacy of durability, authenticity and uncompromising quality, Red Wing embodies the very ideals that ametora celebrates.

The Japanese designer and founder of Human Made has teamed up with Red Wing Heritage on a capsule collection that refreshes the brand’s most iconic silhouettes. We craft the 8-inch Classic Moc and Pecos boots from rough-out Hawthorne Abilene leather. Engineered to improve with wear, these boots honour the brand’s past and carry its legacy forward with every step.
‘At Human Made, we believe the future is in the past. The best ideas come from studying history and giving it new life,’ says Nigo. ‘Working with Red Wing allowed us to explore that idea in a real way.’

Both styles are complete with a functional zip, a nod to the utilitarian appeal of American army surplus and the enduring influence of military design on everyday workwear and streetwear alike.
Coinciding with the limited-edition release is a capsule wardrobe of Japan-made apparel. The collection riffs on retro American style, stamping collegiate crewnecks and varsity jackets with Red Wing Shoes’ feathered logo. Consider it the ultimate stamp of approval from the powerhouse duo.
