Heartbreak Collective album: Inspired by Lily Allen, music fans create tracks about their ex

Recently a group of music fans embraced a ‘music therapy session’ like no other, working with a top producer to emulate their heartbreak heroes, such as Lily Allen, Adele or Taylor Swift, to create their very own track about an Ex And now the album is finally here!
Following new research that found almost half (45 per cent) of Brits believe they have enough material from past relationships to pen their own breakup song, the world’s leading ticket marketplace viagogo launched: viagogo’s Heartbreak Sessions a once in a lifetime chance for music fans to turn their tears, torment and turmoil into a professionally produced track, with PATCH, the producer who has worked with Simon Cowell’s hit boyband, December 10 formed on a hit Netflix TV show.
The superstar production team at viagogo’s Heartbreak Sessions also included award-winning British songwriter Conan Mac (Bastille, Lucky Love and Issac Frank) and singer-songwriter GLOWE (Georgia Lowe) who has performed Glastonbury, as well as supported the likes of Pixie Lott and Paul Carrack.
Meet the Heartbreak Songwriters
Pam, 32, from London
Pam described her Heartbreak Session as a “really cathartic” experience, working alongside Conan Mac, PATCH and GLOWE to turn personal experiences into music.
The session resulted in ‘Rose Tinted Glasses’, a song about recognising when you have idealised someone and finally choosing yourself. Pam says the song came together quickly after sharing stories with GLOWE and turning their experiences into lyrics.
“I love that ‘Rose Tinted Glasses’ doesn’t stay in the heartbreak for too long,” says Pam. “You can take something messy and painful and turn it into something that makes people feel stronger.”

Diego 21, from London & Robbie, 21, from Brentwood

Robbie and Diego combined their Heartbreak Sessions to create one track together, bringing their individual ideas, experiences and musical styles into a single song.
The pair enjoyed the opportunity to work together and found that having multiple songwriters contribute to the same track made a real difference to both the creative process and the finished result.
“It felt so good and almost relieving to express in such a way, especially through lyrics,” says Robbie. “I’m very proud of our song. It’s our style and also something we would listen to.”
For Diego, bringing different perspectives together helped the song evolve into something beyond its original heartbreak inspiration. “It was special,” he says, “to have everyone else chip in their personal experiences to help build a beautiful piece.”
The pair were impressed by how quickly they were able to turn their combined ideas into a finished track, with Diego praising the producer for creating such a high-quality song in just two hours.

SYLVIE, 23, from London
For SYLVIE, the Heartbreak Session was about turning a personal experience into something empowering. Her track explores the frustration of caring about someone who won’t let themselves be vulnerable or change.
She originally wrote the song on the Tube before bringing it into the studio, where PATCH helped transform her idea into a finished track.
“I write music to make me feel powerful and to make other people feel like the protagonist in their life,” she says.
The experience has inspired SYLVIE to continue creating music that gives listeners a chance to escape for a few minutes and come back feeling stronger.
