Oskar Brandt Navigates High-Stakes Emotion on Debut Single ‘Now or Never’
In partnership with Oskar Brandt
Music has a way of capturing people at the edge of decisions they aren’t quite ready to make. For Berlin-based singer-songwriter Oskar Brandt, that edge isn’t something to avoid; it’s the entire foundation of his craft. Making his debut with the single “Now or Never,” Brandt introduces a sound rooted in orchestral pop: expansive, cinematic, and unflinchingly honest about the friction of human connection.
Instead of chasing quick hooks or only temporary trends, Brandt’s music leans into the gravity of film scores and classical arrangements, mixing sweeping strings together with deep piano, plus an intimate, vulnerable vocal delivery. It ends up feeling less like a regular pop track and more like a scene that was pulled straight out of a dramatic score, or at least close to it.
The Weight of the Crossroad
At its core, “Now or Never” explores the delicate, often painful moment when a relationship can no longer survive on hesitation. It deals with the quiet realization that staying in middle ground is far more damaging than taking a leap.
“I wrote ‘Now or Never’ about the kind of love that’s been tested so many times it can’t stay in the grey area anymore. It’s that point where you look at the person in front of you and know that staying half in will hurt more than the risk of jumping all the way. I wanted listeners to feel that knot in the stomach, the fear of losing them, but also the quiet hope that choosing each other, fully and honestly, might actually save what’s left.”
That tension, the space between fear and commitment, drives the track’s emotional trajectory.
“For me, this song is the sound of standing at that edge together and saying: either we fight for this now, or we don’t get another chance. Underneath it all, it’s the aching, restless yearning for the love of your life, the one your heart can’t let go of.”
Crafting a Cinematic Landscape
To bring that level of emotional weight to life, Brandt teamed up with industry veterans who understand how to translate raw feeling into sound. The track features cello work from Dave Eggar, known for his contributions to Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé, alongside production guidance from Heather Holley, who produced for Christina Aguilera early in her career.
The collaboration brings a distinct depth to the single, balancing grand orchestral flourishes with quiet, lingering moments.
“‘Now or Never’ came together through the collaboration with two experienced creatives: cellist Dave Eggar and producer Heather Holley. Dave’s contribution adds a timeless, cinematic layer to the track, while Heather’s expertise in vocal and emotional storytelling refined the song’s direction. Working with these artists contributed to the project’s identity and depth in the final production.”
A Sound Built for Reflection
Drawing inspiration from the vocal power and narrative depth of artists like RAYE, Sam Smith, and OneRepublic as well as the narrative structures of musical theater, Brandt crafts songs meant to be sat with rather than casually digested. He doesn’t offer neat resolutions to complicated feelings like grief, heartbreak, or uncertainty. Instead, his arrangements create room to sit inside those emotions, offering a sense of shared experience.
“Now or Never” serves as an introduction to an artist focused on longevity and depth, providing a foundation for what may follow as he continues to build his catalog from Berlin.
