Sahej Turns Fear and Uncertainty Into Momentum With New Single “Not Yet” 

There is a special kind of fear that happens right before something important. It may occur prior to sending an uncomfortable message, assuming some responsibility, opening an intimidating email, or taking the first step in pursuit of something one has wanted for years. Sahej bases his newest single called “Not Yet” on a state of fear that presents itself when a person hesitates, afraid to take the next step because of uncertainty.

Released as the latest chapter in Sahej’s evolving catalog, “Not Yet” reflects a period of significant change for the artist born Gursahej Singh. Over the course of the summer, Sahej began teaching himself how to sing, play guitar, produce, navigate the music industry, and understand what kind of artist he might eventually become. The result is a track that captures that uncertainty while also demonstrating how far he has come from where he began.

The idea occurred to him after some creative disappointment. Sahej spent several months on the creation of what he believed would become his third song, investing countless hours into its melody and progression. After stepping away for a week with his family, he returned to the Logic project and found himself disconnected from something he had once loved. 

“It was an objectively good song, fully put together, and would probably have done well,” he explains. “However, it didn’t feel right. I was so disappointed, and I really did not want to start from scratch.” Instead of trying to immerse himself in the project again, Sahej decided to leave his room and go to play his guitar. And at that moment of disappointment, a new melody appeared to him. He composed a guitar part, which would be used in “Not Yet,” and then came up with a phrase that he could see sung by thousands of people.

The Meaning Behind “Not Yet”

The title carries several meanings throughout the song. For the artist, it speaks to rejection, postponement, uncertainty, and the fear that someone may simply not be ready for what comes next. He also considers the possibility that “not yet” could represent a message from a higher power, suggesting that a dream may still be possible even if the timing is not right.

“The fact that each action still happens regardless of those moments is the real magic,” Sahej says. “Even if it’s not yet, it will be done.”

This makes the song more emotionally broad since the lyrics discuss fears like giving up, losing something good in life, being rejected, feeling the need to prove something, and meeting expectations. Sahej wanted to make sure that these emotions would resonate with the audience who might also be going through a difficult time.

Turning Fear Into Sound

The song also draws from Sahej’s understanding of how quickly circumstances can change. Experiences that once felt overwhelming eventually became moments he survived, leaving him with a different perspective on fear and uncertainty.

“Despite everything I’ve made it through, I’m terrified,” he says. “I was reminded of the time I was told that if I was given a responsibility, and I was afraid for any reason, to ‘do it scared.’ So that is what I did with this song.”

This approach determined not only the lyrics but also the overall composition of the song. A disturbing guitar riff switches between distortion and clear sounds, and different effects and percussion add the feeling of being blown away by an abrupt gust of wind. Vocal lines make a lot of the song’s atmosphere, with backup vocals doing almost the same thing as synths or strings. “Not Yet” is also the first time Sahej has incorporated his higher vocal range in a released record.

A New Chapter Taking Shape

Sahej sees “Not Yet” as the conclusion of a trilogy and a snapshot of a summer spent building his skills from the ground up. “I’ve spent this whole summer quite literally building myself from scratch,” Sahej says. “Learning how to sing, learning to play guitar, learning to produce, learning the industry, and doing all of this embarrassing learning in front of everyone has shown me so much more about myself than 18 years of life.”

It has also raised many questions about his musical style. Instead of answering, he plans to keep exploring as he grows and develops his style. As for his mission, it remains straightforward: “Alleviate the suffering of others.”

“Not Yet” is all about Sahej’s purpose with the addition of ambiguity. Being scared and still moving on, and being ready when the time comes. “Not Yet” is about waiting for the right time and the fact that it might not be yet.
