Barbie has topped Google’s list of the most searched for films of 2023.

Greta Gerwig’s film, which stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken, came out on top of Google’s Year in Search list, ranking global searches for films this year.

This summer, the film launched the Barbenheimer phenomenon, when it opened on the same weekend as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer at the box office.

Huge box office success followed for both films, with Barbie taking $162 million (£126 million) on the opening weekend (starting 21 July) while Oppenheimer took $82.4 million (£63.8 million).

Oppenheimer predictably placed in second on Google’s list, while multiple Osar winner Everything Everywhere All At Once also made the list.
