The first look at Alana Haim’s starring role in Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Licorice Pizza’ has arrived.

The HAIM guitarist is set to make her big screen debut alongside Tom Waits, Sean Penn, John C. Reilly and more in the film, which arrives on November 26.

According to an official synopsis, it follows a “high school student, who is also a successful child actor” in the 1970s, with the first trailer set to the iconic strains of David Bowie’s ‘Life on Mars’.

Written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, ‘Licorice Pizza’ is his first feature-length film since 2018’s ‘Phantom Thread’ starring Daniel Day-Lewis. He’s also responsible for ‘Boogie Nights’ and ‘Magnolia’.

Paul has worked with Haim before, their ‘Women In Music Pt. III’ music videos for ‘Now I’m In It’, ‘The Steps’, ‘Summer Girl’, and ‘Man From The Magazine’. The new film is set in the San Fernando Valley, and focuses on a budding child actor (Hoffman) and the high-school object of his affections (Haim).

Bradley Cooper plays producer Jon Peters, who dated Barbra Streisand and produced her version of ‘A Star Is Born’ – going full circle, as Cooper also starred in the remake. In the trailer, Cooper can be seen explaining to Hoffman’s character how to pronounce his Barbra Streisand’s surname.

‘Licorice Pizza’ is Alana’s first major acting role.

‘Licorice Pizza’ will open at select cinemas November 26 in the US, before getting a full release from December 26. As yet there is no confirmed UK release date.
