Netflix have unveiled a particularly meta new trailer for Judd Apatow’s ‘The Bubble’ – you can see it below.

Details on the star-studded film, which is being produced, directed and co-scripted by the veteran comedy writer, remain scarce, but it is understood to follow a group of actors shooting a movie at a hotel whilst remaining in a pandemic bubble – hence the title. Now, in a neat, meta twist, Netflix have released a teaser for the movie-within-a-movie, ‘Cliff Beasts 6: The Battle for Everest: Memories of a Requiem’.

A synopsis for ‘Cliff Beasts 6’ reads: “Humankind is threatened once again by a dinosaur species: Cliff Beasts. The team must reunite, after five long years, to battle the Cliff Beasts — but this time on Mount Everest.” The 30-second teaser is similarly overblown, and gives viewers a first glimpse of the impressive ensemble cast that Apatow has assembled for ‘The Bubble’; no ‘official’ trailer has been released as yet.

Karen Gillan, Fred Armisen, Maria Bakalova, Keegan-Michael Key, David Duchovny and Apatow’s wife, Leslie Mann, all star. Rounding out the cast are Pedro Pascal, Peter Serafinowicz, Vir Das, Rob Delaney and Apatow’s daughter, Iris Apatow. The movie was shot in the UK last spring, with filming wrapping in April 2021. A release date has yet to be confirmed by Netflix, although IMDb is listing it, appropriately, as an April 1 arrival.

It will be Apatow’s first time in the director’s chair since 2020’s ‘The King of Staten Island’, which was co-written by and starred Pete Davidson in a semi-autobiographical role. Over the past two decades, Apatow has become one of Hollywood’s leading comedy figures, directing the likes of ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin’, ‘Knocked Up’, ‘This Is 40’ and ‘Trainwreck’. On television, he has devleoped and produced ‘Freaks and Geeks’, ‘Girls’, ‘Love’ and ‘Crashing’.

In other Netflix news, the streamer has released the first trailer for the forthcoming fourth season of ‘Top Boy’. The critically-acclaimed London drama returns on March 18, with BRIT Award-winning rapper Little Simz a new addition to the cast.
