Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage has criticised Disney for their forthcoming remake of ‘Snow White’, calling it “f***ing backwards”.

Speaking on Marc Maron’s WTF Podcast yesterday (January 24), Dinklage said he was confused at the film’s producers stating their pride at casting Latino actor Rachel Zegler in the title role, yet re-telling a story he feels to be antiquated and problematic.

“Literally no offence to anyone,” Dinklage told Maron, “but I was a little taken aback when they were very proud to cast a Latina actress as Snow White. You’re still telling the story of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.’ Take a step back and look at what you’re doing there. It makes no sense to me.”

He added: “You’re progressive in one way and you’re still making that f***ing backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave together, what the f**k are you doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause from my soapbox? I guess I’m not loud enough.”

“I think also, if you tell the story of ‘Snow White’ with the most f—ed up, progressive spin on it? Let’s do it. All in,” Dinklage added. “But, I just don’t know.”

The remake of Disney‘s 1930s adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairytale is set for a 2023 release and will feature Zegler as Snow White, while ‘Wonder Woman 1984’ star Gal Gadot is on board as the Evil Queen.

Elsewhere, Dinklage’s most recent role comes in an adaptation of ‘Cyrano’, directed by Joe Wright (‘Anna Karenina’, ‘The Woman in the Window’) and starring Dinklage in the titular role of “a heartbreaking love story that transcends time”.
