The first trailer has dropped for the feature-length documentary about George Michael’s legendary career, ahead of its arrival in cinemas worldwide this summer. You can watch it in full now.
George Michael Freedom Uncut will follow the artist’s life and mega-stardom after the release of 1987 solo album ‘Faith’, including the creation of his 1990 follow-up ‘Listen Without Prejudice: Vol 1’.
A press release states that the film will include personal archival footage, as well as memorable performances and interviews with many of the artists that Michael loved and was influenced by.
In the first clip, a young George Michael is seen ruminating on the nature of super-stardom after becoming one of the world’s biggest artists.
“I can’t really explain how overwhelming that kind of hysteria can be… I remember thinking I really don’t know if I’ll ever do this again,” he says.
He later adds of his legacy: “I want to leave songs, I believe I can leave songs, that will mean something to other generations.”
The film will also include personal archival footage, as well as memorable performances and interviews with many of the artists that Michael loved and was influenced by.
Contributors include George Michael, Stevie Wonder, Sir Elton John, Ricky Gervais, Nile Rogers, Mark Ronson, Tracey Emin, Liam Gallagher, Mary J. Blige, Jean Paul Gaultier, James Corden, Tony Bennett, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Tatjana Patitz
“George Michael was an inspiring artist whose story deserves to be shared on the big screen globally,” Tom Mackay, President of Premium Content at Sony Music Entertainment, said in a statement of the new film.
“In honour of George’s birthday this June, we are thrilled to be working with David Austin and our partners at Trafalgar Releasing to bring fans unprecedented access to his extraordinary life both on and off stage.”
