Bruce Springsteen to become first ever international Fellow of The Ivors Academy
The Boss will be inducted at the 2024 Ivors ceremony in London in May.
Bruce Springsteen will become the first non-British songwriter to be honoured as a Fellow of The Ivors Academy this year.
It is the first time an international songwriter has been inducted into the prestigious class, which includes Kate Bush and Paul McCartney, in the organisation’s 80 year history.
“I’m proud to be the first international songwriter to be recognised by The Ivors Academy,” Springsteen said. “In addition to recognising my songwriting, the award stands as a tribute to the fans and friends who have supported me and my work for the last fifty years.
“This entire country has made me feel welcome every step of the way, and for this, I will always remain deeply appreciative.”
Tom Gray, Chair of The Ivors Academy, added: “There is no one more fitting than Bruce Springsteen to be the first international songwriter inducted into our Fellowship. Songwriters are powerful storytellers, who capture our lives, loves and hardships. Bruce has always told the greatest stories. The Fellowship marks the esteem in which he is held by all those who share his craft.”
The 2024 Ivors will take place on Thursday, May 23 as Grosvenor House in London, with nominations announced on April 23.
The Ivors honour will come mid-way through Springsteen’s 2024 UK and European tour with the E Street Band.
The gigs follow a 2023 run that marked the band’s first UK gigs in six years and begin in Cardiff on May 5 and include two shows at London’s Wembley Stadium.
