Lizzo has announced that her fourth album ‘Special’ will be released on 15 July.

She has also released the album’s lead single ‘About Damn Time’ a funky track with a big bassline and even a flute.

‘Special’ will be her first album since 2019’s ‘Cuz I Love You’ which was her breakthrough release as it has sold millions of copies and was nominated for Album of the Year at the Grammy Awards.

Lizzo also commented on her new single in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe: “I’ve made the song of the summer with ‘About Damn Time’. I’m in my bag, and my bag is music. I’m good at music. It’s what I do.”

The ‘Juice’ singer added: “‘About Damn Time’ can lead into so many conversations. It’s about damn time I feel better, it’s about damn time we get out this pandemic. It’s about damn time we to get the first black female Supreme Court Justice. There’s so many things. It’s about damn time we popped the champagne. It’s about damn time the tequila got here.”

Lizzo also released a video for the single which features her dancing in an office building which has a disco floor and there are also scenes where she is standing on a swimming pool.

The video is directed by Christian Breslauer who has also worked with the likes of Lil Nas X, The Weeknd and Doja Cat.

Lizzo is also set to both host and perform on the next episode of Saturday Night Live. She has previously performed on the variety show in 2019 where she sang her hit singles ‘Truth Hurts’ and ‘Good As Hell’.

While she has not released an album since 2019, last year Lizzo teamed up with Cardi B to release ‘Rumors’ which reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted in the top 20 in the UK.
