Alt-pop duo Dirty Nice have returned with ‘Shoes’ and ‘Henriette’, marking their second double A-side release of 2023. You can watch the video for the first track exclusively on Rolling Stone UK.

Following on from double A-side ‘This Is Gonna Hurt’ and ‘Sophie, What’s Up?’ earlier this year, the latest tracks sees the duo leaning into the surreal world that has quickly allowed them to develop a viral online audience.

“’Shoes’ is what you dance to with the person you love so much that both your lives have become one intangible, jiggling blob; since the first kiss you’ve been dancing in each others shoes,” the duo – Charlie Pelling and Mark Thompson – said of their latest release.

Pelling is known as the composer of surreal and otherworldly Channel 4 show Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, while Thompson is a Lisbon based musician.

As an official release explains, the video is also “set in the aforementioned bizarro animated world. Think Charli xcx’s iconic ‘Boys’ video, but with anthropomorphised footwear and you’re not far off the mark.”

It comes after the group released their debut album in 2021’s Lobster and won a famous fan in Florence Pugh, who hailed the group while speaking on the VOGUE podcast.

“I’m listening to ‘Paint Your Nails Blue’ by Dirty Nice and it’s a great song to start the year with,” explained Pugh at the start of 2023.

Expect to hear more from Dirty Nice as 2023 goes on.
