Charli got in the early Halloween spirit by performing in a mock graveyard

Charli XCX brought her latest single, ‘Good Ones’, to ‘The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon’ last night (October 6).

In keeping with the gothic aesthetic of last month’s video for the moody synth-pop track, the singer and her band performed in a mock graveyard awash with dry ice.

Kicking off the performance by appearing to rise from her own grave, Charli appears to be bringing the curtain up on an eerie new era just in time for Halloween, having shared a photo of herself lying in a coffin earlier in the day.

September’s release of ‘Good Ones’ marked her first new music since last year’s Mercury-nominated LP ‘How I’m Feeling Now’, recorded entirely in lockdown.

A photo of a gravestone posted to her Instagram page in August appeared to tease an album release date: March 18, 2022.

Last week, she told InStyle that her new record is “kind of all about sex and sexuality. It can make people dance and cry at the same time. It’s a vibe.”

She’d previously spoken of ‘Good Ones’ heralding a “new chapter”, and has hinted at retro influences on her next album, having told Refinery29 that she’s been delving into what it is to be a major label pop star “in a not very current way.”

She’ll play London’s Lafayette on October 24, following on from two similarly intimate shows in recent weeks in New York and Los Angeles.

Lucky ticket-holders shouldn’t expect new material to be aired: instead, these gigs have seen her run through ‘How I’m Feeling Now’ in its entirety.
