Chris Martin serenaded a soon-to-be-married couple in a Somerset pub on Sunday (June 26).

The Coldplay frontman was on his way back from Glastonbury from attending Glastonbury, a festival he has headlined four times, as a punter when he stopped off for a drink at The Stag Inn in Hinton Charterhouse, near Bath, according to The Times. Hannah Organ and Jeremy Larkham was at the pub to run through planning for the catering at their wedding, which is nine weeks from now.

Martin initially went unrecognised, until landlord Chris Parkin identified him, ordered his staff not to bother him as he enjoyed a quiet pint with his girlfriend, actress Dakota Johnson, and then swiftly broke his own rule, introducing Martin to his teenage son, a Coldplay fan. When the singer asked about Organ’s gathering at the bar, she told him that the first dance at her wedding would be to ‘A Sky Full of Stars’.

Martin duly took to the pub’s piano to play the track to a captive audience of fewer than 10 people. You can see footage of the moment above. “This is a magical moment that we will treasure forever,” Organ told the BBC, with her fiancé adding, “as you can imagine, we were in absolute shock when he agreed to play for us.”

Organ described Hinton as “such a small village,” and added, “we never in a million years could imagine this would happen to us. We wished we invited him to our wedding but we were just in shock. Now our first dance has unravelled to such a huge moment.”

Martin will return to playing to considerably bigger crowds this weekend, when the European leg of his band’s ‘Music of the Spheres’ world tour gets underway at Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt, Germany. The run will reach the UK in August, with a massive six-night run at Wembley Stadium in London, as well as two gigs in Glasgow at Hampden Park. You can see the full dates below.
