A couple were caught on camera getting engaged during Elton John’s headline set last night (25 June), prompting viewers at home to celebrate the moment while ‘Tiny Dancer’ was performed.

BBC cameras happened to catch the proposal as John played his 1971 track while accompanied by special guest Brandon Flowers of The Killers.

The proposer was initially seen getting to his feet after bending down on one knee to pop the question. Then the couple were seen smiling and embracing as members of the audience close by congratulated them.

People watching from home also sent their best wishes to the couple. One wrote: “Getting Elton and Brandon Flowers to play during your proposal takes some beating tbh. Congrats to the happy couple.”

Another said: “Oh god the proposal has sent me over the edge, getting a bit dusty in here #Elton #Glastonbury.”

John performed what has been said to be his last ever show in the UK, after the pop star confirmed that he would be retiring from live performances.

Flowers was one of four guests who joined John on stage for the closing headline set of Glastonbury 2023. First up was Jacob Lusk of Gabriels and then singer Stephen Sanchez. John’s final guest was Rina Sawayama, who performed Kiki Dee’s part in ‘Don’t Go Breaking My Heart’.

Rolling Stone UK’s Nick Reilly wrote in a five-star review of John’s performance: “If this truly is the end of Elton’s performing days, then he’s going out on an almighty high.

“But his voice – seemingly unaffected by the ravishes of time – and unparalleled talent, are still shining as bright as ever. On the basis of tonight’s show, it’s high time to hope for one more trip on the yellow brick road.”
