A couple got engaged at a Sports Team show last night (November 18), which took place at University Stylus, Leeds.
During the set, couple Will and Susannah took to the stage before Will got down on one knee to propose to Susannah. Sports Team posted a photo of the happy moment on their Twitter this morning (November 19), writing “Congrats Will and Susannah, a marriage built on the Leeds Stylus stage is a marriage built to last”.
Another clip has been shared, which shows enthusiastic support from the crowd, cheering on the couple after Susannah said yes. You can watch the footage below:
The band were performing in Leeds as part of their rescheduled UK and Ireland dates. They will resume their tour tomorrow (November 20) at Ulster Sports Club in Belfast, before performing at Whelan’s in Dublin the following night. The band will also perform in Bristol (23) and London (25).
Labour and Cooperative MP for Leeds North West, Alex Sobel, was also in attendance, after joining a parliamentary debate on European Touring.
Last month, Sports Team joined the long list of acts who pulled out of the Hit The North Festival after allegations against the event’s promoters, SSD Concerts. It has also been announced that the band will perform at next year’s Tramlines festival in Hillsborough Park, Sheffield. Sports Team will join acts announced as part of the festival’s first wave, including Sam Fender, Kasabian, Madness, Sigrid, Self Esteem and Becky Hill.
Sports Team released their debut album, ‘Deep Down Happy’, in 2020, and their follow-up single, ‘Happy (God’s Own Country)’ in April 2021, alongside a ‘Wicker Man’-themed music video. The band released a limited edition vinyl, ‘Plant Test’, earlier this year, including “rarities, b-sides and unmastered new material”, according to an Instagram post by the band at the time.
In an interview with Dork, frontman Alex Rice said: “We’re constantly jamming stuff when we’re together, and we have this backlog of hundreds of songs and half-songs, so why not release it into the world? A lot of people get so fixated on the idea of a difficult second album that they get paralysed and fuck it up.”
