Elton John has shared a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of his album of collaborations, ‘The Lockdown Sessions’.

Available to stream exclusively on Apple Music as of today (December 1), ‘Inside the Lockdown Sessions’ presents fans with an insight into how John pulled together the record, his fifth collaborative full-length. Among others, Miley Cyrus, Stevie Nicks, Eddie Vedder and Rina Sawayama make appearances.

“Surprise! Just in time for the holidays, I’m taking you ‘Inside the Lockdown Sessions’,” he said on Twitter. “Watch as I go deep into the making of my latest album with all of my collaborators.” John has since shared a clip from the film on the platform, which sees him discussing his duet with Nicks via video call.

‘The Lockdown Sessions’ became John’s first number one album in nine years in October. ‘Cold Heart (Pnau Remix)’, on which he teamed with Dua Lipa, topped the singles chart the same month. John is aiming for further chart glory before the year is out; ‘Merry Christmas’, a festive team-up with Ed Sheeran, is released this Friday (December 3), and will aim to unseat LadBaby as the holder of the prestigious Christmas number one position. The Nottingham-based graphic designer, real name Mark Hoyle, has clinched the spot every year since 2018.

John’s eventful 2021 continues apace. Last month, Prince Charles formally bestowed upon him one of Britain’s highest civilian awards, the Order of the Companions of Honour, in a ceremony at Windsor Castle. Back in September, he was forced to postpone the UK and European legs of his last-ever tour, ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’, after sustaining a hip injury in a fall over the summer.

The ‘Rocket Man’ singer will make up the dates in the spring and summer of 2023. Last week, he announced a pair of dates for June 2022 at Vicarage Road, the home of his beloved Watford Football Club.
