Belfast punks Enola Gay release their visceral debut EP, ‘Gransha’

Belfast punk band Enola Gay have released their debut EP, ‘Gransha’, and a single called ‘Scrappers’.

Talking about the single, the band say it was “written for anyone who has felt the wrath of sleazy authoritarian bouncers.”

They perform the song in their local dialect, with plenty of guitars added.

Enola Gay’s debut EP also features the song that was their debut single, ‘Sofa Surfing’. The song was written about mental health and homelessness.

A previous ‘Birth of a Nation’ was inspired by the Black Lives Matter protest that took place at Belfast’s Custom House.

Talking about finding inspiration for their lyrics and tackling difficult subjects, guitarist and lyricist Joe McVeigh told God Is In The TV Zine: “So far every song stemmed from a specific provoking moment from an exigent issue.”

“Some lyrics like ‘Sofa Surfing’ started from one line- and off-the-cuff comment mid-rant whereas, ‘Through Men’s Eyes’ lyrically was written before Enola was even a thing.  A 3 am iPhone notes outburst that was never posted on social media but turned into a rhyme.” 

They’ve received critical acclaim from the likes of Steve Lamacq on BBC 6 Music, and have also announced a huge set of tour dates for the UK next year.
