FKA twigs has released a new single, ‘Killer’, which you can hear below.

It’s the Londoner’s first new music since she dropped her ‘CAPRISONGS’ mixtape back in January; last month, she unveiled the final instalment in the accompanying video series, ‘CAPRIVIDS’. ‘Killer’ marks a move away from the largely upbeat celebration of hedonism and friendship that ‘CAPRISONGS’ represented, instead chronicling in vulnerable fashion the end of a difficult relationship.

“Dancing in the dark, I can feel it in my heart / You’re a killer, but I didn’t wanna call it / Something in the way you put your hands on my waist / Pulled me nearer, no, I never wanna call it,” are among the lyrics on the new track. “Took your love for righteous and now I’m in a crisis with a killer.”

In a statement accompanying the single, twigs looked to elucidate the meaning behind the track. “When at its worst the effects of heart break can define one’s trajectory much more than the beauty of the love itself,” she wrote. “In my song ‘Killer’ I explore this concept. The navigation, the hunt and the kill. The death of promises, dreams and the future that was once promised.”

“But like the wildest plucked roses,” she continued, “I find myself more beautiful delicately wilted, in shadow, forced solace, darkened at the edges and achingly thirsting to be tended to again.” The new track arrives a week on from twigs’ first appearance on NPR’s much-loved Tiny Desk Concert series, where she debuted ‘Killer’ and played two older songs, ‘Home with You’ and ‘Cellophane’.

Last month, meanwhile, it was confirmed that twigs is taking her foray into the acting world up a notch, having been cast in a major role in the upcoming reboot of ‘The Crow’, in which she’ll star opposite Bill Skarsgård. “I am absolutely thrilled to announce that I will be appearing alongside Bill Skardsgård in The Crow,” she said as she confirmed the news on Twitter. “I feel so honoured to be amongst such a powerful team and am already having the best time working on my character lewks.”
