George Ezra has released a new single called ‘Green Green Grass’ and announced a UK/Ireland area tour.

The singer-songwriter debuted the uplifting track during his recent comeback show at the London Palladium. In a review of the intimate performance, Rolling Stone UK described the song as a “typically sunny” addition to Ezra‘s catalogue.

As the musician explained to the crowd that night, ‘Green Green Grass’ was inspired by his past travels to warmer climes. It serves as the second preview of Ezra’s third album ‘Gold Rush Kid’, which comes out June 10 via Columbia Records. Lead single ‘Anyone For You (Tiger Lily)’ arrived in January.

“I was on holiday in St Lucia with a few friends at Christmas 2018, with two of my closest mates from home,” Ezra explained of ‘Green Green Grass’ in a statement.

“We were in this beach bar, drinking homemade rum punch and Piton, the local lager, flip-flopping between the two, pissing about with three local guys who worked there. And this music started up, three streets back from the sea.”

He continued: “After about half an hour, I had to go see what it was. And there was a street party going on, with three different sound systems, people cooking in the street. I asked a woman what was going on and she told me it was a funeral – for three people.

“They were celebrating three lives! I thought: that is not how we do this at home. And it’s really beautiful.”

In the chorus, Ezra sings: “Green, green grass/ Blue, blue sky/ You better throw a party/ On the day that I die.”

This bright side outlook is captured in the single’s summery official lyric video, which finds a shades-donning Ezra driving carefree down a scenic country road. You can watch the clip above.

If last night’s performance is anything to go by, it’ll be George providing the sunshine.”
