Ghetts charged after fatal hit-and-run killed 20-year-old in east London
The rapper is accused of failing to stop after the incident in Ilford last Saturday

Ghetts has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving after a fatal crash in east London.
The acclaimed rapper, real name Justin Clarke-Samuel, is accused of failing to stop after he hit a 20-year-old man in in Redbridge Lane East, Ilford, on Saturday, October 18, the Met Police have said.
Clarke-Samuel, 41, appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court to face the charge on Monday, the same day the man died in hospital.
The BBC now reports that the charge against Clarke-Samuel is expected to change from causing serious injury to causing death by dangerous driving at his next court hearing.
The rapper, who lives in Woodford Green, has been remanded in custody and will next appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Monday, October 27.
Ghetts is considered to be one of the pioneering voices of grime and became a prominent star within the genre when it emerged in East London in the early 2000s. He has received two Mercury Prize nominations for 2021’s Conflict of Interest and 2024’s On Purpose, with Purpose, and also appeared as a major villain in Netflix superhero series Supacell.
