Grimes is set to return with new music this week, taking to Twitter to reveal that a new song is coming on Friday (December 3).

The singer and producer’s last full-length album came out at the start of 2020 in the form of ‘Miss Anthropocene’, and she recently shared a snippet of a new track called ‘Love’ on her TikTok account.

Last night (November 29), Grimes took to her Twitter account to announce details of the new song. Alongside the release date of December 3, she shared binary code which translates to ‘Player Of Games’.

“It’s real this time. Phew,” she wrote alongside the announcement, before directing fans to a new website, which allows them to pre-save the song on streaming services.

Earlier this month, Grimes founded an AI girl group called NPC and released its first single, a collaboration with DJ-producer Chris Lake called ‘A Drug From God’.

Grimes previewed the collaboration on her Instagram in May, although at that point there was no mention of her AI group. She explained in a reply to a fan about today’s band announcement that the song was “getting so hyped in the dance world” that she and Lake wanted to share it properly.

According to a press release seen by Crack, NPC has infinite members that “can be voted in or out, except for core members such as the baby Warnymph”.

Grimes also revealed in an Instagram post about the NPC announcement that the project still has visual elements to come. She wrote: “We’re super behind on everything and you’ll all see why in a month or so, so I apologise about delays of music and visuals.”

In the summer Grimes described her next album as a “space opera” that’s centred around a lesbian AI romance and involves a character named Claire De Lune. The record will be the musician and producer’s sixth album, and her first for her new label Columbia Records.
