Jonny Greenwood unveils new song from Paul Thomas Anderson’s ‘Licorice Pizza’ soundtrack
The Radiohead guitarist has contributed the title track to the soundtrack to Anderson's coming-of-age story

A new Jonny Greenwood solo track has arrived as part of the soundtrack to Paul Thomas Anderson’s latest film.
Released today (November 26), the soundtrack to Anderson’s ‘Licorice Pizza’ features tracks by David Bowie, Nina Simone, Wings, The Doors and Gordon Lightfoot, reflecting the film’s 1970s setting. Greenwood has contributed a new composition as the title track – listen below.
The song marks the Radiohead guitarist’s fifth collaboration with Anderson. He provided critically acclaimed scores for ‘There Will Be Blood’, ‘The Master’, ‘Inherent Vice’ and ‘Phantom Thread’, and was nominated for ‘Best Original Score’ at the Academy Awards for the latter.
More recently, Greenwood has scored Pablo Larraín’s Princess Diana biopic ‘Spencer’ and Jane Campion’s slow-burning western ‘The Power Of The Dog’.
‘Licorice Pizza’, a coming-of-age comedy-drama, is on limited release in the US from today (November 26).
Early reviews have been hugely positive, with a 91% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and particular praise for Haim multi-instrumentalist Alana Haim’s acting debut in the leading role. Film critic Ben Mankiewicz said on Twitter: “The movie world needs to prepare itself for the overwhelming charm, likability, and humanity of Alana Haim in @licoricepizza.”
The film, Anderson’s ninth as writer and director, follows Haim’s character, photographer’s assistant Alana Kane, as she befriends a teenager (Cooper Hoffman) and navigates the tumultuous political and cultural landscape of the San Fernando Valley in 1973.
‘Licorice Pizza’ will be released in the UK on January 7.
