Keith Richards has revealed that The Rolling Stones will not hit the road in 2026, but suggested a tour could be on the horizon next year.

It comes as the band gear up to release Foreign Tongues, their next album, on July 10. It is the follow-up to 2023’s Hackney Diamonds and features appearances from the likes of Paul McCartney, The Cure’s Robert Smith and the band’s late, great drummer Charlie Watts.

When asked now about a potential tour this year, Keef told the Associated Press: “We can talk next year. At the moment, we’re just sort of saying, we’ve finished the record… [and we’re] considering what to do after. Pretty soon, but not this year.”

The Stones last played the UK in 2022, with two huge BST Hyde Park gigs followed by a stadium show at Liverpool’s Anfield. It was later reported they planned to tour in 2025, but those plans were later scrapped.

Reports of their return began last month when it was suggested that the venerable rock icons were to return under the name The Cockroaches, with a number of QR codes spotted across London.

As for Foreign Tongues, Jagger recently revealed how Robert Smith’s cameo proved to be completely serendipitious.

“I turned up one day to do my vocals in London, and there’s this bloke standing there with his back to me and this long gown on,” said Jagger. “When he turned around, it was covered in lipstick. I said, ‘I’ve never met you before, but you’re Robert Smith of the Cure.’ He said, ‘Yeah!’ I said, ‘While you’re here, we better go and do something.’ He sings a backing vocal.”
