Miley Cyrus is giving us a tear-jerker off Something Beautiful. On Friday, the pop star released the single ‘More to Lose,’ the second track off of her upcoming album, out May 30.

“On a song like ‘More to Lose,’ I try to keep it a singular take. I add my harmonies, ad-libs at the end, but it’s really a song that’s more of a story and I never want that to be interrupted or overthought or chasing perfection,” Cyrus said in an interview about the song posted to her Instagram. “I never wanted ‘More to Lose’ to feel perfect, I wanted it to sound meaningful and emotional.”

The singer shared a teaser of the ballad on social media earlier in the week. Cyrus’ track was produced by Jonathan Rado, Michael Pollack, Shawn Everett, and BJ Burton.

Cyrus released the single alongside a black-and-white video that sways from footage of the singer dripping in crystals to wearing a long, classic dress and toward the end, wearing a somber black coat with sheer fabric covering her face. At one point in the video, Cyrus is seen crying as she sings: “And you say it/But I wish it wasn’t true, no/I knew someday that one would have to choose.”

Cyrus played the track during a performance in New York over the weekend, calling the song an “instant classic.” The track will be featured on her upcoming ninth album, executive produced by Cyrus and Shawn Everett. The singer teased the album with its first single, “End of the World,” early last month.

She’ll feature the 13-track “pop opera” project during this year’s Tribeca Film Festival on June 6. A synopsis of the project describes it as “a unique visual experience, fueled by fantasy, including 13 original songs from the upcoming album. A one-of-a-kind pop opera from the mind of Miley Cyrus.”
