Pam Hogg, the celebrated Scottish fashion designer who created looks for the likes of Lady Gaga and Rihanna, has died.

The fashion icon’s passing was confirmed in an Instagram post which announced she died peacefully at a hospice surrounded by “cherished friends and family”.

“The Hogg Family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved Pamela. We are grateful in the knowledge that her final hours were peaceful and surrounded by the loving care of cherished friends and family,” the statement read.

“We wish to thank all the staff of St Joseph’s Hospice, Hackney for the beautiful support they provided for Pamela in her final days. Pamela’s creative spirit and body of work touched the lives of many people of all ages and she leaves a magnificent legacy that will continue to inspire, bring joy and challenge us to live beyond the confines of convention. Pamela will continue to live in our hearts and minds. A glorious life lived and loved.”

Tributes immediately came from Garbage singer Shirley Manson, a close friend of Hogg’s.

“That’s you away then hen. Our dear, most distinguished doctor. Our revered Scottish fashion queen. Thank you for it all,” wrote Manson.

“The brilliance and the bravery and the extraordinary, explosive sense of humour that perpetually burled you forth with tremendous force. The Iconoclastic and fantastic Dr Hogg may have left the runway but you will be found in the long and storied history of British fashion and in the imaginative , pioneering work of each and every fashion designer who trails in your wake.”

Manson added: “You will be missed.”

Hogg was famous for never revealing her exact age, but she studied Fine Art and Printed Textiles at the Glasgow School of Art, before launching her first fashion collection in 1981.

She was a firm favourite of high-profile stars throughout her storied career, having designed catsuits for Kylie Minogue’s ‘2 Hearts’ video, as well as designs for Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Kate Moss, a firm friend of Hogg’s.

Other stars to wear Hogg’s designs included Jessie J, Björk, Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell and Claudia Schiffer.

Hogg delivered her own unique contribution to the music world, having designed the 2016 statuette for the BRIT Awards. She founded the band Doll in just five days after unexpectedly bagging a support slot for Blondie’s Debby Harry in 1993.

Tributes also came from Fearne Cotton, who wrote: “Pam. Oh Pam. What a joy it was to know you. I’ll miss you Pam.”

Gwendoline Christie, meanwhile, simply wrote: “Forever.x”
