Pixies have announced they are releasing a new album in later in 2022.

Announcing its title as ‘Doggerel’, the band also confirmed it will be released in September.

The band’s drummer David Lovering was talking to Double J’s Karen Leng when he confirmed the news.

Lovering said the album “will be released in September” and “It’s all new stuff I’ve gotta learn.”

He also admitted “it was great to be back at it” after the release of their new single ‘Human Crime’ in March.

Lovering also discussed what the album sounds like: “I think it’s the same with most Pixies albums, it kind of runs the gamut of different dynamics and songs. Sonically, it sounds fantastic and I’m a big fan. It has me very excited… and I haven’t been excited in a long time.”

He also responded to claims from guitarist Joey Santiago that the album was a sequel to their highly regarded 1989 release ‘Doolittle’.

Lovering said: “It’s like a vague comparison. I would have to agree in a way, I’ll leave it at that.”

Pixies released their last album in 2019 but in the three years since have dropped an EP of demo tracks and two singles.

‘Doggerel’ will also be the band’s fourth album without bassist and vocalist Kim Deal who left the group in 2013. Deal has not featured on any of the band’s albums since their recording comeback later that year.

Since formally leaving the Pixies, Deal has released a number of solo singles and reunited with her other group the Breeders to release their first album in ten years.

She also collaborated with Courtney Barnett on a number of tracks for the Australian’s second album ‘Tell Me How You Really Feel’.
