Primavera Sound has announced Arctic Monkeys, Lorde and Nine Inch Nails as its 2022 headliners for the inaugural Los Angeles edition of the festival.

Arctic Monkeys, Lorde and Nine Inch Nails will be joined by many other artists on the billing for the festival, which takes place from September 12-18, 2022 at the LA State Historic Park.

Also on the bill are Arca, Boy Harsher, Chai, Drain Gang (Bladee, Ecco2k, and Thaiboy Digital), Dry Cleaning, Faye Webster, James Blake, Kim Gordon, King Krule, Low, Mitski, Mustafa, PinkPantheress, Special Interest, Stereolab, Tierra Whack, and Tim Hecker.

Primavera has taken place annually in Barcelona and Porto for years, and in 2019 the festival company announced that their first U.S. edition would take place in Los Angeles in 2020.

The festival was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and restrictions also forced the closure of the 2020 and 2021 European editions of the festival.

The line-up for Primavera Sound Barcelona 2022 was released in May, and the festival will take place from June 2-12, with headliners including Massive Attack, Jorja Smith, Gorillaz, Tame Impala, Megan Thee Stallion and Tyler, The Creator. Its first weekend (June 2-4), will feature a Pavement reunion show.

In a statement on the Primavera Sound website announcing the headliners for the Los Angeles festival, the festival company wrote: “Today, at last, we finally begin to cross the bridge that will take us to a new Primavera Sound destination without renouncing to all those values that, after 19 editions, underpin the Barcelona festival. Sustainability, gender equality, social commitment and urban integration will guarantee an impact that goes beyond the strictly musical one.”

Later in the statement, the company wrote: “The journey to Los Angeles can be made by following an infinite number of musical itineraries that will soon be extended with the rest of the artists on a line-up that is already heading towards equality. A non-negotiable commitment for Primavera Sound in its search for a fairer music industry.”
