SZA has confirmed that she broke her ankle prior to her appearance at Sunday’s (March 3) Grammys.

The singer appeared at the Las Vegas ceremony at the weekend and took to the stage to accept the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance award with Doja Cat for their song ‘Kiss Me More’ while on crutches.

Following the ceremony, she took to Instagram to confirm that she had indeed fallen and broken her ankle prior to the Grammys, but that she was “NOT missing that red carpet”.

“Chipped the corner of my ankle bone right off doing NOTHING,” she wrote while sharing a photo of the x-ray of her broken ankle. She added: “I was NOT missing that red carpet.”

Elsewhere at the 2022 Grammys, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky delivered a video message to viewers, urging the watching world to speak up on the ongoing invasion by Russia.

Foo Fighters also notched up a hat-trick of wins, just days after pulling out of their scheduled performance due to the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins. Elsewhere, Jon Batiste and Olivia Rodrigo were among the big winners.

The 64th Grammy Awards moved from January in Los Angeles to April in Las Vegas this year thanks to another Covid surge. Trevor Noah, who made his Grammy debut last year, returned to host a show that included performances by Silk Sonic, Lady Gaga, Chris Stapleton, Billie EilishBTS, and Olivia Rodrigo.
