The 1975 have teased the lyrics of their comeback single ‘Part Of The Band’ on new billboards – check them out below.

The band, who have not released new music since 2020, teased new material last month when posters began popping up over London featuring frontman Matty Healy and a July 7 date.

It has since been confirmed as the release date of single ‘Part Of The Band’, ahead of their currently untitled fifth studio album.

“Your new album. Your new era. Your old friends. The 1975,” they wrote on social media.

More billboards have now popped up which feature lyrics of their forthcoming single, shared by the band and their record label Dirty Hit.

Check them out below.

The lyrics begin: “She was part of the airforce / I was part of the band / I always used to bust into her hand / In my imagination I was living my best life / Living with my parents / Way before the paying penance and verbal propellants / And my cancellation.”

Late yesterday (June 28) Healy also shared a brief snippet of the song’s jazz-inspired instrumentals, which you can listen to here.

Healy and co. released their last full-length album, ‘Notes On A Conditional Form’, in May 2020. It followed on from 2018’s ‘A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships’, the BRIT Awards’ Album Of The Year for 2019.

The band first confirmed they were working on new music earlier this year, when Healy took to Instagram to share a one-minute black-and-white video titled “Part 5, Day 1”.

Last August, Healy told fans on Instagram that he was “making another ‘classic record’”. Then in October, he played two new songs – including one called ‘New York’ – while opening for Phoebe Bridgers at her show in Los Angeles.

The band have not performed live since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic but are booked to appear at Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival in August, headlining alongside rapper Post Malone.

The 1975 last performed live in early March 2020, shortly before the coronavirus forced the cancellation of shows worldwide.
