Tom Meighan has shared his debut solo single ‘Would You Mind’, his first track since leaving Kasabian last year.

The former frontman teased the track earlier this month and released it in full as a free download this morning (October 29) due to “an amazing response on social media”.

The new track is Meighan’s first release since leaving Kasabian in July last year after he was charged with assault against his partner Vikki Ager.

Meighan pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid work. He has since married Ager and the pair have relocated to Cornwall.

Writing on Instagram about the single’s early release, he said: “I didn’t plan on releasing this song until next year, but due to such an amazing response on social media, I have decided to make it available and free for anyone who wants to listen.

“I just wanted to say thank you for the overwhelming love and support. I am truly humbled. This song is my gift to you, for anyone who is struggling in any way. Ask for help. I didn’t but wish I had. Hopefully this song will give you the courage to reach out.”

This week Kasabian released ‘ALYGATYR’, their first new track since Tom Meighan left the band.

Following court proceedings last year, Kasabian shared a statement on Twitter about their decision surrounding Meighan’s departure.

“No one in the band wanted this to happen. We have all worked so hard for the past twenty three years and had big plans for our future together. We’re completely heartbroken,” it said.

“But we were left with no choice but to ask Tom to leave the band. There is absolutely no way we can condone his assault conviction. Domestic violence and abuse of any kind is totally unacceptable.”

Ager told Cornwall Live last year: “He apologises daily. He really does. A lot of people have arguments and ours got taken to an extreme level.”

She added: “We were both fighting. We were really drunk and I don’t normally drink. It was more of a squabble, it wasn’t domestic violence.”

Meighan also wrote about the incident and his mental health in a blog post shared last month. “I did something I will never forgive myself for: I physically assaulted my now wife Vikki in a row fuelled by alcohol. It was totally unacceptable,” he wrote. “In fact, it makes me feel sick every time I think about it.”
