War Child re-release classic albums to fundraise for Ukraine and more countries
The albums feature acts including Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Coldplay and Radiohead
War Child has re-released some of its classic charity albums to raise money for children affected by conflict in countries including Ukraine and Afghanistan.
The albums released between 2002 and 2009 feature acts including Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Coldplay, Radiohead, Beck, Gorillaz, Oasis, Muse, New Order and more.
War Childs Records is re-releasing ‘1 Love’, ‘Hope’, ‘Help! A Day In The Life’ and ‘War Child Presents Heroes’. All the records are available on limited black, yellow and red vinyl for the first time from today (April 8) and can be ordered here.
“By purchasing these classic albums fans are supporting War Child to reach children in Ukraine and conflict zones around the world and give them the vital protection, education and psychosocial support they require,” a statement said. All proceeds from the sale will go to supporting children.
The classic albums, released between 2002 and 2009 feature artists including Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Coldplay, Radiohead, Gorillaz, Manic Street Preachers, Beck, Oasis, Lily Allen, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and many more.
‘1 Love’ was first released in 2002 in collaboration with NME to mark 50 years of the magazine. It includes Muse covering ‘House Of The Rising Sun’ by The Animals and The Prodigy covering The Specials’ ‘Ghost Town’.
In 2003, ‘Hope’ was released in collaboration with The Daily Mirror to help children affected by and displaced by the Iraq war. George Michael covered Don McLean’s ‘The Grave’ and New Order gave a rendition of Jimmy Cliff’s ‘Vietnam’ on the album.
