Ed Sheeran and current Rolling Stone UK cover stars Bring Me The Horizon have opened the BRIT Awards with an unlikely cover of Sheeran‘s ‘Bad Habits’.

The Sheffield band added a hard rock edge to Sheeran’s 2021 track, the first to be taken from his third album ‘=’.

Delivering a new take on the chart-topping hit, both acts were backed by a selection of dancers – some of whom upped the ante by hanging from wires suspended from above the stage.

Sheeran delivered a faithful rendition of the track, while Sykes added his familiar screams to bring the pop track into Bring Me The Horizon‘s world.

It’s the first performance of the night from Sheeran, who is set to deliver his second performance later in the night. Other performers include Liam Gallagher, Adele, Sam Fender and Little Simz.

Reacting to the performance, one fan said: ““Ed Sheeran & Bring me the Horizon is a mix I did not know I needed,” one Twitter user wrote after the performance ended.”

Adele has so far won the Best Song Award for ‘Easy On Me’, while Dua Lipa has picked up the award for Best Pop/RnB act. Other winners include Sam Fender for Best Alternative/Rock Act, while Wolf Alice have picked the award for Group of the Year.

Elsewhere at tonight’s ceremony, host Mo Gilligan told Rolling Stone UK how he won’t be giving celebrities a brutal roasting.

“I know a lot of these musicians and tonight is all about joy,” the South London comic told Rolling Stone UK at the BRITs.

“I’m in their arena and I need to make sure the vibe is right. If anything it’s a party and I need to make sure everyone is having fun and having a good time! I need to be like ‘you’re having a drink’, ‘you need a phone charger’ and ‘your cab is coming soon, you might want to get outside’.”
