As the Rolling Stone UK Awards kicked off last night, there was only one band we could possibly call on to kick off proceedings: The Last Dinner Party.

The group, who won our Rising Star Award and will release debut album Prelude To Ecstasy in early 2024 – opened last night’s awards at London’s Roundhouse with a magical performance of ‘My Lady Of Mercy’.

The performance saw singer Abigail Morris getting up close and personal with the Roundhouse crowd, at one point leaving the stage to weave in and out of the tables where guests and fellow nominees were enthralled by the performance.

The night got even better for The Last Dinner Party when they picked up the Rising Star Award later in the evening.

Accepting the award from Busted, the band – who beat the likes of DylanNell MescalLovejoyRachel Chinouriri and more to the gong – said: “We’ve not been to an award show before and this is the first award we’ve won so thanks a lot! We’re just friends who sing. This is very sweet, thank you Rolling Stone UK! Thank you Sharon Osbourne! Long live rock and roll.”

Speaking to Rolling Stone UK in the new awards issue of the magazine, the band’s keys player Aurora Nischevi discussed their continued evolution, saying:  “A lot of the best artists, and the ones that stand the test of time, all have their thumbprint on everything, but they’ve also had a whole career’s worth of development and change. In amongst all of that, there’s something that’s cohesive about all of it. There’s something special in that.”
